    the way the Aussie media have exploited the Virginia Tech tragedy (e.g. this mornings Sunrise prog) is quite shameful. Why should a tragedy that occurred in Virginia (a US state with very lax gun laws) be seen as some sort of case for whipping up the gun phobia case here again??

    Do we so closely identify ourselves with the USA these days that we automatically feel like this thing happened down the road? Obviously, the Aust media identifies itself with their US counterparts--they've been stealing their programming ideas from them for years (e.g. NIne's 60 Minutes).

    The tidal wave of fear and loathing that the media have generated over the last few decades is destroying our quality of life. How can you enjoy life when you live in constant fear? The vulnerable in society (particularly women) are being driven to demand more and more "safety". It's a real threat to our freedom.
