PCI Expands, Thanks to Their Own Unified Comm Solution + NewSat Proactive Communications, Inc. (PCI) now has a three year, two million dollar deal with NewSat Limited (ASX:NWT) to expand satellite coverage across Southwest Asia.

PCI will be able to offer coalition reconstruction operations in Afghanistan with full voice, video, data and collaboration capabilities. This contract expands PCI’s coverage from Afghanistan to North Africa and provides PCI with the industry’s first ever capability to offer a Unified Communications solution to customers in the region in Q1 2009. PCI has deployed one of its iDirect satellite hub chassis to NewSat’s Adelaide Teleport to support 14Mbps of capacity on NSS-6' Middle East Beam.

In Q1 2009, PCI will be offering customers a far more rich media environment for the delivery of fully integrated voice, data, video and secure messaging over a satellite communications (SATCOM) network infrastructure. The package optimizes feature functionality, reduces configuration and maintenance requirements, and provides interoperability with a wide variety of other applications. PCI’s UC framework will permit rapid deployment of emerging applications such as desktop IP telephony, unified messaging, telepresence, mobility, desktop collaboration, enterprise application integration with IP phone displays and collaborative IP contact centers. Instead of relying on a third party for VoIP capability, PCI developed its own VoIP service internally which will allow for lower prices and greater customer support for PCI’s customers.

Satellite capacity over Southwest Asia and Afghanistan is difficult to access for most customers, and with PCI’s new teleport and new satellite beam secured through the NewSat deal, the company is able to build a new pipe for their growing Afghanistan business. The initial contract will also be a long-term proposition for both companies. NewSat will increase its exposure to U.S. customers and will be able to leverage the unified communications expertise of PCI moving forward..
