Did a deeper investigation for each store and realized that on the individual ASIN pages there is a "monthly sales" number. Where sales are less than 100, the actual figure is listed, then it says "100+", "300+", 1000+" etc. at 100 increments.
Anyway, in an attempt to understand sales numbers better (as opposed to Top 5 leaderboard data), on 21/5 I took a full snapshot of each ASIN offered by each of the TMall Stores (I hope I got them all). I looked at the Monthly Sales (rolling number, I guess) of each ASIN at that date, and did a sumproduct of the values with the listed price. I checked this again just now (25/5) and looked at the same thing. A few things to note from the data:
1) One of the Colab ASINs has a SKU that is 50ml mixed in with 200ml SKUs. I've taken the 200ml price, since there are more 200ml products listed under this ASIN
2) For Murray River, many of the ASINs (e.g. Gobble) allow customers to buy multiple packets at once for a bulk discount. I have assumed the "monthly sales" listed is for the lowest price SKU, to be conservative and consistent.
3) Where an ASIN has 100+, 200+, etc. I've used the "100" or "200" figure (without the +), again to be conservative.
4) Amounts are probably skewed by sales/discounts, but I don't know how to factor those in to the analysis.
Below, I present the sumproduct of the Monthly Sales Volumes per store. I would look at these as a 'rolling average monthly sales value' (in RMB). I'll keep monitoring, but this is quite interesting. A few things from the data:
1) Between 21/5 and 25/5, there was a huge jump on Nuria - Defend: Purifying Cleanser (200ml), from 50 sales to 1000+
2) Colab's top product (dry shampoo 200ml) jumped from 700+ to 1000+
3) Essano Hair Recovery Serum (50ml) jumped from 100+ to 400+
4) Ultra BLIS jumped from 100+ to 300+
Monthly Rolling Store Sales ($RMB) ASINs 21-May 25-May 1 Nuria 11 123,614 283,632 2 Colab 7 197,153 219,784 3 Kiwi Health 9 201,546 203,131 4 BLIS 7 117,412 136,775 5 Inika Organic 8 24,186 22,426 6 Essano 16 81,604 120,840 7 Murray River 24 38,049 29,741 8 TOTAL 82 783,564 1,016,329
I will need a longer batch of data to draw any conclusions from this, but interested to get thoughts. We know we earn a commission on every single one of these sales, so if we have a general upward trend form over time, this is all good news.
