Excluding a globally catastrophic event (pick a disaster movie), something resembling a UBI is inevitable going into the future. It can't be avoided. I've always read that the implementation of a UBI would be by far the bumpiest part of the road for mechanical reasons (more than political ones), but given our Right wing Government's flexibility to swing way out left beyond the Greens to the tune of a few hundred billion in a time of crisis, perhaps a UBI will be more easily installed when it comes time.
