Universal Basic Income

I have an idea of how Universal Basic Income could be introduced in Australia, United States, UK, Canada, etc.
The democratic process is inefficient in achieving outcomes, due to term limits and the need to negotiate with fringe parties.
Furthermore, the election process is inefficient, millions and in the case of the US billions is spent in the election process.
What if at the start of each election cycle people are given the option to give up their right to vote in the next election in return for a universal basic income?
In this way productive parts of society, and self funded retirees have a greater say in government. Those who want a basic income of $70,000 per year (indexed to inflation) are free to live their lives free of politics. Furthermore those on a UBI also give up the right to oppose any development processes.

    Thoughts?
