It would be a poor teacher who does not make it clear when he/she is giving a lesson or lecture and when, at other times student participation is welcomed and encouraged. During lectures at university, the lecturer was the speaker throughout. Tutorials were conducted by tutors for students to ask questions and for the tutor to extend the material covered in the lecture. All is orchestrated by the staff member in charge of the student group. Good teachers are well prepared with material and lesson plans based on progression through the syllabus. Handouts, class assignments and reading lists, together with dates for work submission from students with dates provided. Teachers teach the subject matter. I have spent 15 years at universities as a student someone part time and possess several degrees. I have also taught at both secondary and tertiary level for more than 20 years.
