"52% of road fatalities last year were cyclists in 60k or 50k zones" really? Or should that be 52% of road fatalities in 60k or 50k zones were cyclists. There's a significant difference and the first statement I find hard to believe, whereas the second one is more plausible. How many fatalities occur in 50/60k zones here in Aus? I would think the majority or them occur in the higher speed areas. Germany and France for instance have 50k limits in built up areas. There appear to be more cyclists there from what I have seen as well. What's more, they are granted the responsibility of deciding whether or not to wear head protection. Maybe the problem is actually with our cyclists, but I suspect that it's more to do with revenue raising.
