The logical extension to the argument that there are people who are in need and so should get taxpayer money (over and above those people with long careers and many years of paying taxation) means this economic model is simply unsustainable. Of course people who contribute should anticipate welfare support when elderly and in need if and when needed, as long term Australian workers and citizens. That is the decency we should expect from our country, just as our parents and grandparents who were needy at the end of their working lives, got small liveable pensions for a few years before their deaths.
There will always be far more people who could be allowed into this country who will in turn be in need to taxpayer money than we can pay without significantly reducing our standard of living. FACT. This means our country will turn into a 3rd world country.
Have those who have paid tax all their lives entitled to welfare? Yes. Of course. No debate there. Since when should people expect free money???? No contribution.
Our economy is already in trouble with large government debt and private debt burgeoning. The drain on our country's economy has got to have some brakes applied. World population is at record highs and growing exponentially.....

That's where you go wrong pic, "those that pay taxes are entitled to welfare" nonsense. Only those who NEED welfare should be entitled to it. We need to stop the entitlement crap that people have just because they had a job. So many tales of people who spend savings on holidays or renovations or hide money with kids etc so they qualify for full pension. Inept planning shouldn't be rewarded.
