I should have picked it up earlier as it was mentioned in the previous Presentation but for backup purposes the Redflow battery only minimises the use of a diesel generator rather than replaces it. The benefit is considerably reduced for backup purposes if you still need a diesel generator to be maintained and tested.
Why would you expect that aspect to be different to any other correctly sized battery system? Once the battery reaches its' recommended depth of discharge unless a blackout is OK, you need some form of input, from the grid or a generator. The advantage Redflow has is a reliable repeated 100% DOD before any other input is needed, like a generator.
All of this presumes your normal power supply to recharge the battery is no longer working.
