It is in this situation that having 2 trading accounts maybe 1 in just your name and 1 in a joint account comes in handy.
If you are sitting on a capital gain and paying tax at say 32.5% or higher then you could sell your shares at a loss and if you wanted to rebuy them you would use the other account to avoid a possible washing event.
Just roughly, and I am no accountant 70K loss x 32% gives you an offset of about 22K.
