Yes, whenever an investment decision goes against you in the short term, it must be market manipulation.
Could it just be that a current holder wants to sell for any number of reasons. Maybe investors are redeeming capital from their fund, or they see risks we don't. Or just maybe they found an even better investment and need the capital from this one.
