I guess living in Melbourne you get to appreciate how much EastLink is needed.
I live just north of Nunawading and you can see how eagerly people are waiting for it to open.
It's not just the passenger cars that will use it but its the trucks and light commercial vehicles.
EastLink will connect the manufacturing east and south east of Melbourne with the manufacturing centres in the north and west by the Eastern Freeway and Ring Road.
You just have to look at the volume of traffic on the Northern Ring Road today to see how much it was needed and to think of what the roads would have been like if it wasn't there.
EastLink is going to be a cash cow which will milk money for the next 40 years.
There is "talk" that the Eastern Freeway at Hoddle St will be tunneled under to link the Eastern Freeway with CityLink and Western Hwy.
If this happens, EastLink and CityLink will almost be physically joined - and who says TCL doesnt want to buy CEU? HA!
