EXR issues a very good announcement today and virtually nothing happens. Turnover is a miserable 125,000 shares and the price goes up a few cents - but at the close, no buyers are offering above 55 cents.
Is it any wonder that companies such as EXR see their future as being increasingly dependent on the London markets? Sure, their interests are exclusively in the North Sea but that shouldn't stop Aussie investors from getting on board. After all, this company has the chance next month of finding gas, which everyone knows is becoming increasingly scarce in Europe and then next April they are expected to drill the Jaguar "elephant".
One shouldn't be surprised. When Russell Langusch held a public briefing in Melbourne for brokers and the general public, just 3 people turned up.. And Melbourne claims to be still the financial capital of Australia!
EXR directors can't be blamed if most of their attention now goes to the British markets and this little backwater "down-under" gets neglected.
Let's hope this doesn't happen and that the M.D. continues to run these briefing sessions. This is how we knew that a farm-in deal was being planned for 2005. We also were told that EXR was sitting pretty in terms of selecting from numerous farm-in offers because so many lease holders had run out of time and/or cash to complete their drilling obligations.
One assumes that the deal announced today was the best of many on offer. Fingers crossed that they find something this time - and that there are a rew Aussies still on the register to share the spoils!
