This may be year end window dressing by the big boys.
That said, they are doing so in anticipation of gold price rally in 2010. In the near term, the Fed may be manipulating the data release and cause people to believe a rosy recovery picture for 2010. However, the nasty mortgage defaults and bank losses will need to be announced at some point in 2010. This may trigger a second round of property crisis.
