The big issue with overseas investment in Australian shares is dividend imputation. I am no expert on this matter but there is no dividend imputation for overseas investors in Aussie shares. DYOR please.

Some say dividend imputation should be abolished to allow a level playing field for Overseas & Aussie investors. Overseas investors reluctantly stay away as Aussies get relief from double taxation.

I do not understand mechanism. So can someone please help me understand if dividend imputation is what is causing Aussie stock market to be a laggard?
