An exploration well has two aims in order of decreasing priority:
1) Make a DISCOVERY 2) Gather data. Much of the data set is required to establish a discovery anyway.
My take on SM's comment......it's over optimistic to expect the first exploration well in a frontier basin to carry a high chance of being a discovery.
