An oblique item of interest for you all.
The most recent issue of Nature Genetics has an article, "A suppressor screen in Mecp2 mutant mice implicates cholesterol metabolism in Rett syndrome." Some of the Genetics crowd at Baylor are involved.
The suggestion is that statins (used to lower cholesterol) could be used as a treatment. My scanning of the news+views article (this really isn't my field) was that they were able to alleviate some but not all symptoms in the mouse model. Interestingly, they also link across to mechanisms in Fragile-X.
