The basic failing IMO lies with DMO - they are the responsible agency to bring a product from proved concept (DSTO) to production status.
That agency has been bedevilled by myopia and a distinct lack of focus on the needs of the infantry. They have poured an incredible amount of resources into the Collins class money pit as well as pursuit of overly featured aeroplanes whilst ignoring the needs of those who "take and hold ground".
Hopefully with an infanteer at the top this will change - one can pray I guess.
One is reminded of the British between the wars who failed to appreciate the significance of the tank and the aircraft carrier, both failings which cost them dearly in lives, territory and treasure.
Nevertheless, it is clear that the tech will be adopted in the foreseeable future but whether it is within this current coy structures very much an open question.
