Nathanblack - selling to crystallise a loss and then immediately buying back the same shares is a wash sale and will get you in trouble with the ATO. Speaking as an accountant I know that in some cases the ATO will both cancel your loss and charge you a penalty. Something to keep in mind around this time of year.
