Tudor Pickering Holt, an investment banking firm in the US with a focus on the energy sector, has identified the Cooper Basin in central Australia as a major emerging shale gas region. While the bank says local companies Santos and Beach Energy are best-placed to benefit from the unconventional gas tenements in the area, US competitors may also be keen to gain exposure. Chevron has already partnered Beach Energy, and UK corporation BG Group is active in the Cooper Basin alongside Senex Energy, DrillSearch and Strike Energy/Orica;
