    UPDATE FROM HAR
Residents will know that Compass Resources and Compass Mining (respectively the holder of the mining leases and the former operator of the Browns Oxide Project near
Batchelor) went into administration in late January 2009.
In May, a decision was made to liquidate Compass Mining and place Compass Resources under a Deed of Company Arrangement for 12 months. The Joint venture between Compass Resources and Hunan Non-Ferrous Metals Corporation (HNC) still exists.
In May, 2009 HNC (Australia) Resources (HAR) was appointed the operator of the Browns Oxide Project. HAR is a wholly-owned subsidiary of HNC.
As the new operator of the Browns Oxide Project, HAR is conducting a review of the ore treatment process and the Browns processing plant. It is confident of restarting
the operation about the middle of next year. HAR is also continuing with some of the exploration projects around Batchelor (but not for uranium).
HAR will shortly lodge a Notice of Intent with the Northern Territory Government to develop a copper, cobalt and nickel oxides deposit known as ‘Area 55’. This is a
relatively small deposit, estimated at about 5 million tonnes of ore, that will provide feedstock to the Browns Oxide Project to extend the life of the Browns processing
    plant.
Communication consultants from Michels Warren Munday and environmental consultants from Coffey Natural Systems recently visited residents in the Litchfield
Park Road area to start community consultation for the project.
Residents raised a number of issues including the importance of protecting bore water, noise (there won’t be a night shift), dust, impacts on community amenity, jobs
for local people and ideas for community relations and sponsorships.
HAR General Manager Bob Lloyd says the bore monitoring group previously coordinated by Compass Mining will be reactivated soon (a letter will be sent to
members of the group and people who indicated they would like to join during the recent community consultation visits).
He said there will be further communication with residents about the project shortly, including more community meetings.
Any inquiries on community consultation should be directed to Jane Munday on 8981 6445.
