Quick explanation: LSF and PGF which you mention in your post are both listed funds (managed by an external manager, who charges a fee to the investors in those 2 listed investment vehicles). GQG also manages various funds for investors and levies a fee for doing so. However, GQG itself is a fund manager, not a listed fund. When you invest in the listed stock, GQG, you are buying a slice of the actual funds management business which charges fees to investors in their various funds. By way of example, for PGF which you mentioned, the fund manager PM Capital is owned by another listed stock, Regal Funds Management (RPL). PGF is the listed investment fund, holding a reasonably diverse portfolio of various stocks chosen by the fund manager PM Capital (and therefore publishes an NTA), whereas RPL is the listed funds management business that owns the fund manager PM Capital, and therefore benefits from the fees charged to investors in PGF, based on that previously mentioned NTA. I hope that makes sense, as you need to be very sure of what you're investing in.
Fund managers tend to be more volatile than the funds they manage, as their earnings tend to rise or fall based on market movements and inflows/outflows to their funds. Great managers will succeed over time and gain more funds under management, poor managers (the majority) will struggle in the long run.
