Ford can make more profit sourcing materials from countries that meet the US Inflation Reduction Act requirements. The US doesn't have a free trade agreement with Argentina.
This was discussed in some detail when the IRA was announced - Ford wasn't likely to proceed with their LKE offtake. At the time, the rampers dismissed this as a likely possibility.
