Probably not generally understood. I often see comments like "JP Morgan are buying, this must be a good thing", when it is their Trust company buying.
I chuckle to myself when people ask for "updated broker reports" to try to figure out who is buying. While some brokers are more aligned with the 'big end of town' and some, like Commsec, deal more with 'people like us' it isn't that clear. I have two brokers, one of whom is Commsec and the other a major Swiss Bank but no matter which one I use, it's still the same me. I've also heard that it is not unknown for larger players to buy/sell through brokers like Commsec, and also use multiple brokers, to put the hounds off the scent. I have no idea whether this is true.
