I'd also rather BHP concentrated on their shareholders rather than have to fight off Elliot but the fact remains BHP has become a lazy behemoth that is struggling to identify suitable assets to build on.
The new story is that the board is considering a bigger investment in potash in Canada but as with the shale oil (any many other) forays it is doomed to failure due to excess supply and low global demand.
Elliot is doing us a favour by continually prodding the board to improve performance which as been in the last few years very very poor from the shareholder perspective.
