Uranium Resources development and opportunities
Uranium within the Malundwe and Chimiwungo copper deposits occurs as discrete uranium-enriched zones that will be separately mined during the copper mining operation and as such, processing of the copper ore does not produce any uranium "contamination" of resultant copper concentrate. Of the total Uranium Resouce of 12.1 million tonnes of 0.082% U3O8 (>0.01% uranium cut-off grade) containing 13,094,000 lbs U3O8 a total of 7.7 million tonnes at 0.081% U308 is included within the currently optimised (Malundwe and Chimiwungo pit designs.
BFS metallurgical already carried out indicated uranium recoveries of 97% were achieved in the production of uranium yellow cake from Malundwe uranium ore.
Uranium exploration potential at Lumwana- in addition to
the uranium resources defined at Malundwe and Chimiwungo, there exists considerable additional exploration potential for uranium within the 1,355 sq km Lumwana mining lisence.
