A low availability of French nuclear output has also impacted Europe's power costs, with Monday's baseload auction for Germany settling at 265.96 euros per megawatt hour, its third-highest level ever. With Germany scheduled to or already removed its own nuclear power its dependence on others just gets bigger and more risky.

"OSLO, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Nordic power prices on the Nord Pool exchange hit record highs on Sunday as cold weather, low renewables output and high gas prices continue to push up the cost of electricity in Europe.

The Nordic system price for day-ahead power rose to a record high of 246.86 euros per megawatt, Nord Pool data showed, up from a previous high of 186.16 euros on Sunday, while French and German prices were near recent highs."

German import of power is in direct competition with others including the entire EU "Germany exported 78,863,000 MWh of electricity in 2016."

Who is betting they have changed from a net exporter to a net importer of power? 2020 data "At 60.9 TWh, net electricity generation from nuclear power was around 14 percent down on the previous year's level (71 TWh). The decline is due to the shutdown of the Philippsburg 2 nuclear power plant."

I think they might be mates with some Australian politicians who love the C02 emissions from GAS German 2021 (in prior link) "Electricity generation from gas continues to rise, increasing its net electricity production by 6 TWh or 11.7 percent to 59TWh. " They do dress that increase up suggesting its not quite as dirty!

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Germany year-ahead baseload power, the European wholesale market’s benchmark contract, on Monday gained 6.2% to trade at 142 euros ($156.64) a megawatt hour (MWh) at 0825 GMT, driven by higher carbon and oil prices.
