“the bear and the dragon” is a nice (geopolitically informed) fiction book well worth the read. Perhaps pre Xi and Putin. Definitely written prior to the rise of China financially. But deeply rooted in the sino desire for energy resources.

CCP has never had to fight a real life or death survival war unlike russia which has well and truly. Russia is never going to allow an emboldened China be in a stronger position than now. A weakened west plus us nice people in the eastern hemisphere is not in Russia’s best interests. An uncontainable China is Russia’s nightmare. IMHO.
