My Comments

A Bill may be proposed by members of either Inatsisartut or Naalakkersuisut and each bill is subject to three readings in the House before it can be finally passed. On 5 October The Uranium Bill was proposed (first reading). On 20 October we learned the Bill is with the relevant committee. We have not seen that the committee has finished their review.

The rest of the timeline is pure speculation. The committee needs to provide a report to Inatsisartut, then Inatsisartut debate the bill taking into account the committee’s report, the bill is read for the second time, more debate or agreement, Bill is now read for the third time.

When and if the Uranium Bill gets passed into law is anyone’s guess. There are events happening in and out of Greenland that lead me to believe the Bill will likely not get out of committee but anything is possible and I’ve been wrong before!
