Hello Prospektor and Conix,
I can remember been taught at School in about 1960 that Uranium was been mined at Rum Jungle South of Darwin,however there was more Uranium in the Harts Range near Alice Springs and this was making the mining of Mica difficult in the Harts Range Region.
( I can also remember as a Thirteeen Year Old at the Time Thinking along with my Friends ; that's Good Australia can Build Atomic Bombs to defend itself from the U.S.S.R. Bear as You would know this the Cold War Era).
