re: uranium policy-elections tomorrow export and sales are of course a federal govt matter and strongly wanted by the reigning Libs. However, mining and nw mines a state/territory matter, under the control of ALP govts, and under current bans in two states-wa and qld. NT has said it will block Koongarra and so far has not been tested on its position, and although favourable on economic grounds, must take into account environmental issues and ALP Federal Caucus policy.
Current forecasters are tipping the ALP to be returned easily in tomorrow's elections but tip the Greens to win 4 seats, both at the expense of the CLP.This would give the Greens them a big say if not the balance of power. Their policy here is clear; no new mines.
We will know Monday. It may simply mean a 4 year wait till the next elections for ARU and CMR, assuming they decide on uranium mining.
