re: uranium policy-elections tomorrow Correct Oly, moderating because of the application of informed facts and logic to these issues. Most illogical is the posting of possible Federal Govt positions of increased uranium sales to China, as if they in some mysterious way applied - oh, are they opening the uranium mine tomorrow- to CMR, and without any details of what exactly is planned.
You are right, a political game is in play at the moment, orchestrated by the Federal Libs seeking to put pressure on the Labour held states/territories, particularly WA vast deposits of uanium exist.
What about ARU and all the other hopefuls anyway. There will be keen competition and BHP with Olympic Dam, and Beverly -two of the existing three mines- do not have problems with state/territory approvals. They simply can increase production. What a head start. The third mine, Ranger, is running out of ore and the land councils and the NTG have blocked alternative supplies. So' only two mines in a few years, but one the biggest in the world(olympic Dam)
I recall also that Coronation Hill (gold/uranium)which was an earlier uranium mine -it's ore was processed at Rum Jungle - was vetoed from further exploration and mining by the Federal Govt and the land councils, as this occured post 1976 when the rules for getting exploration and mining approvals changed. Forever banned.
As you say, lead, copper in the oxides and sulphides don't face this issue. At least at Browns for the oxides , anyway.
