uranium processing juk

  1. 356 Posts.
I am an engineer but not a mining engineer and am having trouble getting my head around the processing stages for Uranium extraction.
From what I can make of it - does it goes something like this ?:
    1) Ore winning, crushing then grinding in a ball or rod mill using classifiers for sizing.
    2) Then dissolving the uranium in a sulphuric acid slurry with the leached solids water washed before going to tailings storage.
    3) Meanwhile the acidic solutions go through solvent extraction using ion exchange (& other solvents ?) before reaching a precipitation stage of some sort.
    4) The precipitate is then pressed to give a U3O8 cake
    for packaging/export

    Q. What happens to all the other elements present in the ore ?
Q Is there other plant needed to be added on to remove them eg. Cu, Co, Pb, Ni, Zn, Ag, etc
and what about the presence of S in the Sulphides, and the carbonates and the Magnesiums etc etc
Juk (or other professional) - have I got it roughly right and can you assist with comment please?
