We are urgently seeking donations of XL and XXL wire crates for our dingoes in case we have to crate them post-evacuation. We also need temporary fencing panels and portable gazebos. Ideally to be dropped off to Gladesville hub today or tomorrow or directly to Canberra or Goulburn. We are not in a position to leave the sanctuary and pick up.
Sydney Fox and Dingo Rescue**XL and XXL CRATES NEEDED FOR FIRE EVACUATION**
We are urgently seeking donations of metal wire XL (42 inch) and XXL crates (48 inch) urgently. Crates can be dropped to Gladesville Sydney today or tomorrow or to Goulburn or Canberra over the weekend. We also need temporary fence panels.
There is a 2700 hectare out-of-control bush fire burning 30km from our sanctuary. The RFS have warned us that the fire is currently growing in all directions- it has doubled its size (again) in the past 24 hours and is now roughly 5km wide. Depending on wind conditions we may have to evacuate Sunday or early next week if the fire is not brought under control.
We have a strong evacuation plan in place with 2 x custom dog trailers (for dingoes) and over 40 carriers (for cats, rabbits and foxes). The foxes will be taken to our Sydney Vet to board in an evacuation. The small animals will be fostered out and the dingoes will be transported to a volunteers property in Goulburn. Because the dingoes are timid with strangers and require VERY specialist fencing, we will not be fostering out the dingoes; in an evacuation we will be crating the dingoes in one location until the fire danger passes. If the sanctuary is not safe to return to we will board the dingoes at a commercial kennels (not ideal).
We have 38 dingoes right now and we are seeking donations of metal wire XL (42 inch) and XXL crates (48 inch).
While we appreciate offers to board/care for dingoes at your home we cannot foster out dingoes to new people- they are very timid with strangers, not suitable to live with other animals and excellent escape artists (able to dig and climb as well as jump up to 2.4m fences). We do not have time to dingo proof/inspect peoples yards and enclosures at this stage.
The best way to help right now is with XL or XXL crates and portable shade gazebos.
If you live in Canberra or Goulburn and are in a position to provide safe INDOOR housing for 2 or more of our sanctuary cats or rabbits please get in touch. Rabbits will only be fostered to experienced rabbit carers with indoor space for a rabbit play pen.
We are currently safe, but because our 100 acre block is entirely dense bushland we will evacuate as soon as the RFS advise.
