Hi FatherD, happy to elaborate. China has the technical know how's on REE, they process and export REE and have a fully developed supply chain, yet they need the actual REEs ores as raw material, which is the same as coal, iron ore and other materials which they import abroad. They would happily invest in Greenland if they have the opportunity, just look at what China did for the poorer African countries in terms of infrastructure. There Is similarities as Greenland will desperately need infrastructure as an basis for a good economy. China is doing what European settlers refused to do for the last hundred years, which is lot of lip service but not actually building the countries up for success.

As part of the belt and road initiative it was natural that the Chinese offered to build Greenland an airport which it needed, that offer was vettoed on national security reasons, it ended up with Denmark offering to fund the airport - you really needed an outsider to offer something before the Danish would counter offer - one would question why didn't the Dans offer it in the first place and why did the Dans allow US to have a army base in Greenland without concerns for security.

So really China as an interested party does exist to help build up Greenland in return for its preference as a preferred partner when it comes to exploiting resources. Yet the political background does not allow that type of investment to proceed.

Ursula on the other hand is again super pro US, there is various articles from EU political papers that is also fed up how she put US first and not EU.

Join the dots you will see what I mean I'm not optimistic about Ursula's visit. She is not interested in EU, oddly her priority sits with US's benefits; similarly Naaja does not care about Greenlanders, her priority is also else where.
