Still havent sold, bought a few more instead. The American way of distributing proceeds to holders was deemed way too complicated for us bushwackers to fill in our tax forms. Income earned in different countries and proceeds of sales of assetts paid US and Canadian taxes at different rates according to laws relating to Investment Partnership Units rather than just straight out fully paid shares of an operating company, so decision was any money that came back to Australian holders was deemed to be taxable income with the main deduction available being the capital cost if the proceeds were for Units sold. This was an agreement between BIP and the ATO at about the time that PIH was bought out and some Aussie PIH holders chose to take up BIP's instead of cash. Only found that out at the first tax return, but it certainly simplified things lol. Get three or more payments each quarter for the different types of income derived, some so small theyre not worth banking. The holding is in book form, no certificates are issued, and no fees for holding, originally BNY Mellon did the shareholder services but now it's Computershare USA. There may have been a DRP with BNY Mellon but not now with Computershare. Computershare sell at a daily VWAP and charge a fairly flat fee for doing that which is way less than the cost of having an overseas holding with an Aussie local brokerage like Comsec, who charge ~$1,500 annual fees per o/s holding for doing nothing basically plus the higher brokerage fees. The holder access into Computershare is very good, all the documents you would ever need for tax and investment studies.
BIP management has been very steady, no complaints there at all, the daily price gets played with a lot still, traders can do very well if they work at it, but it is forecast months in advance if you can read the updates so if you miss the action its obvious its because you're a bit slow, or don't want to for the increased trader tax. They do seem to favour their friends who can give them 200m at the drop of a hat but that puts $ in kitty to play with and that's what they like doing and the way they do that means the price is always good. They buy the unexpected and sell it when it "matures", eg China now owns the Chilean main grid. Whats not to like.
I come here to find out how the Beppa archives dust is settling, not like WinX dust thats for sure.
