You may very well be right about US motives being to use Nauru as an South Pacific base if need be

Was on Cocos Islands about 5 years after the Australian Government had forced the Clunies-Ross family into sellin the Islandt to the Australian Governemnt.

After being there for a couple of months it was hard to work out why the Aust goverment was wasting money on the place. Until the Russians started to build up a navy presence in the area (to what turned out to be the recovery of a satalite) with in 48 hrs the whole place turned into a full blown Australian and US military base.



Sounds like another Diago Garcia being created by US and Australia.The B52 bombers fly from there to bomb Iraq.At $250 million it is cheaper to buy Nauru than build an aircraft carrier.From Nauru they could bomb China.N.Korea,Papua New Guinea,Indonesia and even Australia.A bargain.The population could be relocated to Australia.
