Thanks for pointing to Stan's article. He was until recently a senior fellow at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, partially funded by the US and unsurprisingly rather hawkish with regards to China. Stan seems, in other publications, to not be a fan of China's developing militarism but argues a more nuanced position. Unfortunately ASPI seems to have influence with the Morrison government possibly resulting a pretty stupid decision join the quad which I argue is not in Australia's interest.
