What exactly does the "author" mean by "Arctic ice". It cannot be sea ice because the truth is that this ice is going fast, very fast. Not only is Arctic sea ice losing area year on year, it is losing thickness as well. It is becoming weaker and weaker. We can expect sea ice area to decrease at an increasing rate during the early autumns of coming northern hemisphere seasons. Thin sea ice will be much more vulnerable to break up during stormy weather.
Climate change is no longer a matter of models or prediction. We are living with it right now.
