This is a weird piece of news.
The US and Britain have complained previously about how the Chinese Government has allegedly treated the Uighurs.
The UN decided to investigate and so the UN counterterrorism expert is to visit to make a report.
Now the US complains about a visit by a UN representative to the area. The US deputy secretary of State said the visit is highly inappropriate.

    Come On!!!
If the US believes what it says, then it should have no problem with a fully documented investigation by a member of the UN staff, whether he is a counter terrorism expert or some other relevant expert.
The US has said that this visit will validate the Chinese narrative.

So let us understand this - to re-state:
    a) The US complains to the UN about how the Chinese are treating its Uighur citizens
    b) The UN decides act on US complaints and independently investigate the Uighur situation.
    c) The US says "Hey we do not want you to do that because the results of your investigation may support what the Chinese are saying.
    d) The US said that this UN trip will put the "reputation and credibility of the UN" at risk.
    e) Of course the US must be correct. The US State Department would never lie.

My thoughts: I am happy to wait and see what the UN team has to say (and why), before jumping to conclusions.
