political and socioeconomic cohesion in europe would certainly appear to be an impossibility simply because they all hate each other but it was said that there would never be one economic unit because the various groups would not wish to surrender their sovereignty. but now we have the euro which is the defacto currency in europe and more countries being accepted, even russia. We also see borders and trade barriers falling.
they had been promising this since the formation of the benelux agreement in 1948.
i see the rise of islam in europe as being a driving force to unify europe as well as the overriding power of the us ( which the eu would gladly see topple).
politically we have the united states of europe based in brussels and the army and police force (nato).
