lilac, yes I'm only operating from my memory of long ago but I think it was a standard way that the shipping companies covered their As. That is the customer (the shipper) is responsible for loading and documenting what goes into their container and then placing their own locks on said container and the shipping company is not responsible for any contents missing when unloaded.
Complete loss of a container would depend what insurance had been put in place.
