John, there was PLENTY of short-term risk (perhaps I should have been clearer with 'short-term' risk (even medium term potential downward pressure)... read this forum, for example. To say otherwise is ludicrious. Most people thought USD would keep dropping. If this happened, it is HIGHLY likely that QBE would have dropped. I mean, it wasn't exactly going to half like CCU pretty much did... but, there was no reason it couldn't have dropped 15%.
And, yes, I've learnt 10000000 times more from investing than Uni. Actually, 10000000 times more:).
Stop-losses, risk appetite, actually how to research a stock, gut-feeling. I agree, you can't teach that.
With 19 months of investing; I obviously don't know anywhere near everything... however, to say that the sharemarket is not the place for me is inaccurate. I enjoy this.... MUCH more than accounting and law :). I am still learning and expanding, but, I'm happy with my progress.
