Not many people have to pay 50 cents in the dollar tax. At the risk of sounding a broken record, I don't think anyone here it trying to say that a savings account is a good investment, it's just a benchmark that people use to compare as the lowest performance investment class. As well as one place to park your wealth if it is at risk of being decimated elsewhere during a once in a century financial mess.
