According to the National Bureau of Economic Research in the US, the "arbiter of the start and stop dates of a recession", to quote the WSJ, the US recession that began in Dec 1007 ended in June 2009.

It took, according to the NBER, all this time to conclude that the recession had indeed ended in 2009. Any "dips" that occur from now on will be considered a "new recession" and not a continuation of the recession that began in 2007, according to the NBER.

Therefore, technically, the recession in the US is over - no double dip recession, no continuing recession. Over. Period.
