beretta
My comments were never intended to suggest that many parts of Africa are afflicted with murderous, self-serving regimes. Nor do I contest that their practices are an absolute disaster - indeed, it represents some of my greatest concerns about human activity on our planet.
As regards big polluters, IMO with a half year profit of ~$20b the likes of BHP could provide more leadership on addressing environmental issues. If not they can certainly contribute to the public purse to enable us to do more.
Disclosure:
As a self-funded retiree I trade in & out of BHP shares & currently hold shares in several mining companies - I do not consider myself to be a hypocrite since their environmental practices influence my investment decisions. Our urban property features 15 trees, solar panels, water tanks, full insulation etc. I do have a fantastic stereo system but rarely play it above 100db.
