Based on the doctor's statement that they see 200 to 230 burn patient admissions each year and 10 to 20 of these are burns in excess of 20% TBSA, this translates to 5 to 10% of total inpatient burn admissions having > 20% TBSA. Does anyone know of any stats/research that provide percentage of inpatient admissions broken down by TBSA using a greater population sampling? I'd be curious to know if 5 to 10% is typical for most burn centers.
The older version of Avita's investor presentation used to show their initial target market was roughly 14,000 patients/yr, these were inpatient admissions at burn centers that had a burn TBSA of 10% or more. The slide also showed that total inpatient burn admissions at U.S. burn centers are between 30,000 to 40,000/yr. Their slide would imply that 35-45% of inpatient burn admissions have TBSA of 10% or more. This info combined with the Bridgeport, CT numbers would imply that the vase majority of the >10% TBSA burns are still less than 20% TBSA.
