I read another story about Afghan's mineral wealth today, and it got me thinking.

There are many countries around the world that have incrdible mineral wealth, but why do they range in living standards from abject poverty to a high living standard?

Afghanistan, Iraq, Norway, Chile, Venezuela, Australia, Botswanna, all have billions in buried minerals. So why are some of those dirt poor, and others rich. Come to think of it, some of the richest countries have virtually no minerals. Switzerland is not known for its mineral riches.

The answer is of course, their Governments. Draw your own conclusions where we fit.
