Maybe not. But they might have to go back to fighting with sticks and stones now that the US is on the verge of inventing the million mile battery. Not many people clock up 1,000,000 miles on the speedo, so if the battery lasts that long and the range on full charge is over 1,000 kms who's going to buy a gas gussler anymore? And if we dont need the oil anymore then who gives a rats about what goes on in the ME anymore?
