An interesting taxation reform might be to replace income tax with a higher GST and safety net rebates for the lower income earners.
Don't worry it will never happen because the have nots will complain that the high income earners will not be paying enough in tax! As if the really wealthy pay much tax now!
However, such a scheme would encourage people to work harder and get better jobs for more reward because they know that the tax office is not going to tax half the money before the employee even gets to see it.
